When you can no longer walk, learn to fly

WHAT IS AN adaptive flight?

Most paraglider pilots launch by running down a hill with a wing overhead. But not everyone has the ability to do that.

Adaptive Impact uses specialized equipment called a paragliding trike. A trike is a three-wheeled frame with a comfortable seat that allows a participant to fly without needing to run, stand, or support their own weight during launch and landing.

During an adaptive flight:

  • The participant is securely seated in the trike.

  • A certified tandem pilot sits or connects behind them.

  • A paraglider wing is inflated overhead.

  • The trike rolls along the ground until the wing generates enough lift.

  • The pair gently rise into the air and experience flight together

The result is something remarkable: people who may have never imagined themselves flying can experience the sensation of soaring above the landscape, feeling the wind, and seeing the world from a completely new perspective.

WHAT IS ALS?

Many Adaptive Impact participants live with conditions that can limit mobility, including ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis).

ALS is a progressive neurological disease that affects the nerve cells responsible for controlling voluntary muscles. Over time, people with ALS can lose the ability to walk, use their hands, speak, and eventually breathe independently.

While there is currently no cure, meaningful experiences, community, and access to adventure remain incredibly important. For someone living with ALS, an adaptive flight can be much more than a recreational activity. It can be an opportunity to experience freedom of movement, connect with others, and create lasting memories with family and friends.

ADAPTIVE IMPACT'S MISSION

Every person deserves the opportunity to experience freedom, challenge, and the confidence that comes from pushing beyond what they thought was possible. That's the mission behind Adaptive Impact. Through adaptive outdoor recreation and flight experiences, Adaptive Impact helps individuals with disabilities and other physical challenges access adventures that might otherwise feel out of reach. Their programs are built around a simple belief: ability should never define what's possible. Similar adaptive organizations have shown that outdoor adventure can build confidence, independence, community, and a renewed sense of possibility.

SUPPORTING ADAPTIVE IMPACT

When you purchase a bag, you're helping support Adaptive Impact's mission.

That means more opportunities for adaptive athletes and adventurers. More access to specialized equipment. More experiences that build confidence, connection, and independence. More people discovering that their next adventure is still possible.

This is a reminder that adventure is for everyone.
